The California Coastal Adaptation Project (CCAP) was launched in 2021 supported by Proposition 68 grants from the California Ocean Protection Council to OCPC totaling nearly $725,000. The project developed an ArcGIS Online inventory of coastal adaptation sea level rise planning along California's coast, including for the 132 local governments along the outer coast and in San Francisco Bay. It also includes information about federal government lands, such as national parks and military bases, Tribal lands, and California State Parks. In addition to the Inventory, the OPC grant supported research to assess the status and trends of sea level rise planning work to support the state goal of achieving "actionable sea level rise plans" for the entire coast of California. Links to the Inventory and a Story Map about the inventory and key research findings are provided below. The project also produced two key reports in August of 2023 and November of 2024, also linked below. As discussed in those reports, while California has made incredible progress planning for sea level rise adaptation, significant work remains to be done. OCPC will continue to update the inventory as resources allow. Questions about the inventory or findings in the reports may be directed to Dr. Charles Lester (charleslester@ucsb.edu).
